Style Up Your Hair!

If there's one word NOT in my vocabulary, I guess it's 'boredom'. Because I can always find something amusing, interesting, unique, new, out of this world, anything that is worth a try. Or perhaps rather than complaining and dying of boredom, I am making a conscious effort to find something that makes me busy, makes life worth living, makes me sane. As simple as that.

Couldn't sleep one night, ended up browsing thru make-up tutorials and finally landed on hair styling tutorials. I don't have enough 'gadgets' to keep me going, borrowed my flatmate's hair iron.. and the rest is history. I need a strong spraynet though.  Here are some of my proud first-timer moments lol. I couldnt find a suitable occasion to sport this up though.

I Feel Like A Celebrity!

At the ripe age of 29 :p, I feel like a celebrity for the first time. :D

My photographer friend and I have been planning for a photoshoot for quite some time. With the numerous chinese movies and series that I have watched, I've always been curious how I would look like in the olden times of China. So here is the unique theme I have chosen: cheongsam! :D

This is a serious shoot with effort, I went for professional hair and make-up. Setting is at Chinese Garden.

I probably have never been this dolled up all my life. It was a holiday and there were a few tourists in Chinese Garden. While my friend was changing her lens and adjusting lights, a few of the tourist went up to me and asked to be taken photographs with :p. One from China told me 'hen piao liang'. Whew it's the first time I heard that compliment. :)

When I was doing another set for modern theme near the grassland, there was a leisure photographer taking scenery who suddenly change his theme from nature to me. We just let it be. Weird and unethical guy who didnt bother speaking to us for chitchatting or asking permission, basta na lng naki-shoot (nang matagal) at umalis :p.

Another couple asked me 'are you from a modelling agency'.

There were some rain drizzles and fortunately, my friend still managed to capture some good shots for me. Here's a teaser again :)


The shot ended well and I treated my friend for dinner (of course back to normal daily wear). The power of false eyelashes - it is quite strange to be stared at, including a guy on a date with his gf beside our table who kept on glancing every so often. This guy needs some serious spanking!

Everything felt so surreal. I know I am not really pretty or slim, but I am glad for once in my lifetime, I feel like a celebrity! :)

High Heels for the 1st time!

Kikay-ish

I just met with leklek yesterday. Because he has been inviting me to his hangout place (read: gay bar) for quite some time, finally found the chance to accompany him. My first time to a gay bar, gays there arent so loose as I expected them to be, in fact conservative. It was a bar cum public KTV place, I sang 2 or 3 songs that night (keber kahit na public) and I was told that I can sing well and exudes a different appeal while singing Mandarin songs. haha whew that made my night (I do believe them :p, no point of any b.s. as I'm not a prospect at all!) I guess I have another fallback career hmm.

Anyway, I will be forever grateful to him because he taught me one of the biggest kikay lessons - and that is it's mandatory to smile showing teeth. Goodness, I havent widely-smiled for the last 20+years of my life (cause I dont know how to!) and finally someone insisted that I should change it. I think I look more human from 07 onwards. haha thanks sis.

Sometimes I'm afraid to see my old pictures hihi. This was my typical look, with glasses that is :p. Taken while crossing a hanging bridge in Bohol, 2005. Guys and girls, you must really like me for bearing with me hehe. I miss those good old days.

It's a pity that I am so lazy to balance myself on high heels. So far I am just patient enough to handle these small heels. I like the design, borderlining simplicity and style, comfortable and feminine too.

There's just only one brand that comes to my mind whenever I have to buy rubber shoes.

Okay here's one for the vanity. I like the design, I find it fashionable and sexy.

Everyday sandals

Can't live without a pair of it. It's a bit pricey for a pair of sandals, probably 30-40sgd for Ipanema, but it's definitely worth it. It lasted for more than a year.

Bling-Blings

It's been quite a while since the last time I bought any accesories. With the numerous entries I posted about hair, by now you should be able to tell that I like doodling with the hair :p. Hair is a big factor. :)

I recently bought two quite unique hair bling-blings.

Ribbon with Hair Net (or you can call it siopao)

I am inspired by the look of flight attendants who have their hair tied neatly at the back. I find this black ribbon with several shimmering stones and a small net to insert the ponytail into it. It gives a formal and elegant look, good for corporate or formal parties. Warning: make or break. Either you can carry it well or you'll end up looking like Lola Basyang with the siopao. A lot of lolas wear ribbons like that too. Hmm I wish I look like the former :p, can it be my fallback career. Hehehe.

Flower Clips

I didnt know such existed, havent seen one in Ph. Of course these are fake flowers, they're made of cloth, sewn to look like a natural flower. Hawaii is in the air. So feminine. Warning: make or break again. Not everyone can try this. Either you can sport a classy and sweet look, or high possiblity of looking like Jolens with baduy burloloys.

Cute! yet very challenging. Wish me luck. New alternative looks for 2009.

P.S. One of the difficult entries. Imagine I even have to set the timer to do this kind of self-portrait. I'm outta of my mind.

Hair Craze - Ultimate

Early this year, I had my hair dyed. But my real target isnt really just the color thing, I want big waves and curls hehe. I've always wanted an ala-princess or doll hairdo that's not messy and frizzy. :p. In SG, perm and color go together or else it would be too 'auntie' look if you have black curly hair, that's whay they say.

I got my hair highlights before July's vacation. Actually the salon didnt do a good job. The first application was totally 'invisible', I didnt really see any difference before and after I step into the salon. Then I said I wasnt satisfied, and they applied a second application for free (SG never lets an unhappy customer step away from their store). The second was finally 'visible' and the color was actually stronger that I intended. I did catch quite a lot of attention in Manila, it just probably didnt fit the image that people remember me to be, I look like a party animal. :p

When I went back to SG, I scouted for the best deal and finally had my hair permed. Digital perm is quite popular in SG. It gives you big soft curls that are not too difficult to maintain. Sometimes it doesnt look like real curls, but rather a 'set' hair from parlor. I'm loving it. :p It's a bit heavy on the pocket though, probably 4X of the price I paid when I had my first regular curl in Manila last 2004. :p

During my Sept vacation in Manila, people seem to think of me as a 'foreigner'. Service crew in restaurant talks to me in English. Family friends cant recognize me during the christening party. On my way back to SG, I took a cab in SG from airport and the cab driver was surprised to know I came from Manila. 'I thought you're from HK or China, you dont look like Filipino, not at all'.

Here's a comparison using some famous TW stars with curly hair, it's too ambititious I know :p hey everyone has a free pass to dreamland.


I dont know what change I'm capable of. :p Yeah I'm done with my hair experiments, looking for the next best thing :)

Hair Craze

One of the things I would love spending on is hair. :) It's one of the very few physical things I think I can somewhat have a little pride on.

Anyway, haircut is so expensive here! It costs at least 45sgd in a salon inside a mall. (1350php). There are cheapo ones though, the 10-minute haircut salon priced at 10sgd (300php), but usually it will turn out a disaster. Heard lots of complaints from people who tried it, hindi pantay ang gupit, which only led them spending on another haircut in a decent salon. A salon around the corner (in tagalog: asa tabi-tabi na hindi sikat) will cost at least 25sgd (750php).

Years back, I've tried streaks highlights, perming and rebonding. Last January after I arrive in SG, I decided to have my hair dyed, it's my first time and well for some cause hehe. Anyway, my sister suggested I should try copper brown. So be it, I told the stylist I want copper brown, something that is visible. The stylist is a Shanghaihese. From what I could sense, he's suggesting something not that light, probably a walnut brown shade. He asked me where I work, I said IT deployed in some banks (btw IT jobs in SG are mostly in banks). He said from what he knows, banks are strict with the physical appearance of their employees, should look decent enough, prim and proper, and that means no 'glaring' hair colors or highlights. Geesh in the first time I am being 'adventurous', after being stuck in this same old look for the past 26 years of my life, how come the stylist seems to be more conservative than I expected. Hahaha.

Anyway funny thing is after the whole thing, I actually wasnt satisfied in the salon. Probably it's their lighting, I DONT find my dyed hair visible! He seems to sense it, and he told me if I really insisted, I can come back to redo the dye for free. Still, I'm still okay because most importantly, the dye didnt damage my hair.

The next few days, I then realized. The color is getting lighter, especially at night. The brown is very visible. BUTI NA LANG I listened to him, tama lng ang color, lighter than that I really might have problems, I'm not as adventurous as I expected afterall hahaha. Lalo na the first few days, ang tingkad (o baka ndi lng ako sanay), para akong typical japanese. Hehe lesson learnt.. trust the experts on their craft.

I'll update this topic once I get another hair makeover attack, not that soon. I'm still enjoying the current one. :p

Porma Time

I was shopping for pasalubong for my nephews then I chanced upon this cool 2in1 polo with T-shirt. Cute dba, japorms for a kid? Hehe hope it's not too 'loud'. Cguro kung 8yr old ako, mapapalingon din ako if I saw an elementary boylet crush wearing this hehe.

Okay kung bata noh.. U can carry almost any fashion w/o being awkward or prejudiced. I wonder how would this look for an adult. :)
