Just a Little Make-up

In the world of false eyelashes everywhere, I always find it an amusing skill to learn. How in the world do Oriental chinky-eyed ladies make their eyes so vividly big? And yet till now I still did learn any of it…





Funny and coincidentally, there were two instances where people did some ‘coloring’ on my face last week, it was a fortunate accident to remind me that we all have the right to become beautiful, in our own eyes at the very least. And that is despite age. Oops I don’t mind admitting my age, there are 2 things to it:
- As much as possible, act like your age
- As much as possible, don’t look like your age

Hmm now that is something hard. :)

Kikay-ish

I just met with leklek yesterday. Because he has been inviting me to his hangout place (read: gay bar) for quite some time, finally found the chance to accompany him. My first time to a gay bar, gays there arent so loose as I expected them to be, in fact conservative. It was a bar cum public KTV place, I sang 2 or 3 songs that night (keber kahit na public) and I was told that I can sing well and exudes a different appeal while singing Mandarin songs. haha whew that made my night (I do believe them :p, no point of any b.s. as I'm not a prospect at all!) I guess I have another fallback career hmm.

Anyway, I will be forever grateful to him because he taught me one of the biggest kikay lessons - and that is it's mandatory to smile showing teeth. Goodness, I havent widely-smiled for the last 20+years of my life (cause I dont know how to!) and finally someone insisted that I should change it. I think I look more human from 07 onwards. haha thanks sis.

Sometimes I'm afraid to see my old pictures hihi. This was my typical look, with glasses that is :p. Taken while crossing a hanging bridge in Bohol, 2005. Guys and girls, you must really like me for bearing with me hehe. I miss those good old days.

Hair Craze

One of the things I would love spending on is hair. :) It's one of the very few physical things I think I can somewhat have a little pride on.

Anyway, haircut is so expensive here! It costs at least 45sgd in a salon inside a mall. (1350php). There are cheapo ones though, the 10-minute haircut salon priced at 10sgd (300php), but usually it will turn out a disaster. Heard lots of complaints from people who tried it, hindi pantay ang gupit, which only led them spending on another haircut in a decent salon. A salon around the corner (in tagalog: asa tabi-tabi na hindi sikat) will cost at least 25sgd (750php).

Years back, I've tried streaks highlights, perming and rebonding. Last January after I arrive in SG, I decided to have my hair dyed, it's my first time and well for some cause hehe. Anyway, my sister suggested I should try copper brown. So be it, I told the stylist I want copper brown, something that is visible. The stylist is a Shanghaihese. From what I could sense, he's suggesting something not that light, probably a walnut brown shade. He asked me where I work, I said IT deployed in some banks (btw IT jobs in SG are mostly in banks). He said from what he knows, banks are strict with the physical appearance of their employees, should look decent enough, prim and proper, and that means no 'glaring' hair colors or highlights. Geesh in the first time I am being 'adventurous', after being stuck in this same old look for the past 26 years of my life, how come the stylist seems to be more conservative than I expected. Hahaha.

Anyway funny thing is after the whole thing, I actually wasnt satisfied in the salon. Probably it's their lighting, I DONT find my dyed hair visible! He seems to sense it, and he told me if I really insisted, I can come back to redo the dye for free. Still, I'm still okay because most importantly, the dye didnt damage my hair.

The next few days, I then realized. The color is getting lighter, especially at night. The brown is very visible. BUTI NA LANG I listened to him, tama lng ang color, lighter than that I really might have problems, I'm not as adventurous as I expected afterall hahaha. Lalo na the first few days, ang tingkad (o baka ndi lng ako sanay), para akong typical japanese. Hehe lesson learnt.. trust the experts on their craft.

I'll update this topic once I get another hair makeover attack, not that soon. I'm still enjoying the current one. :p

Skin and Hair Care Essentials

Gosh, I didnt notice that my collection of maintenance stuff has reached this much hehe. I used to have only some basic stuff. Seems like there is an overflowing variety of such products here.





3 Recent 'Indulgence': (new discovery)
***Facial masks! - for rejuvenating effect (daw).

***Milk products - Anything with milk is good. Pyschologically, i feel that such products have moisturizing and whitening effect because of milk content, but actually not proven hehe. Milk bath, milk shampoo, milk conditioner, milk lotions, go!

Others: I also like hair treatment creams (ala diy hot-oil for home use), I've also started trying eye cream stuff. Hehe I dont know kelan mauubos, nawili ata sa pagbili naparami. :))

Tip: Normally, once a woman reaches mid-20s, she'd feel guilty if she doesnt apply anything, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. :))) Age gracefully right? :)

Shimmering Bling-Blings

Here are some favorites from my collection of shimmering crystal blings. More known as 'swarowski', they arent the real ones though. Normally they are priced at a few hundreds in the tiangges. Greenhills is a good place to spot nice ones.

Butterfly Claw - it has 4 colored crystals in each of the small wing. It's a small claw, usually used when I tie my hair in the middle (half ponytail).

Flower Clip - it has 3 roses with different colors. I like this one, looks very delicate and elegant. You can tie all your hair with it. This one is a bit costly than the others, bought it in HK.

Bracelet - it has small dangling charms and a small bear.

Earrings - At the top is a unique one. It has small stones of different colors woven into a flower shape. The other ones at the bottom are two-toned.

I like experimenting with colors! :)

Head over 'Heels'?

Almost every girl craves for high heeled shoes. However I am not so much into it.

I forgot when it started that I just wear flats.. as in ultimate flats reaching just about 1 or 1.5
inch heel. (1 inch is totally negligible, rubber shoes or probably leather shoes worn by guys
would also have the same). My few pairs of fancy high heeled sandals were only worn in very
formal occasions - refer to picture taken 2 yrs back.

My supposedly expected vanity with shoes probably has been replaced with just simply keeping my feet flawless haha (kapal). I dont like the feeling of squeaking my foot into an ultra tight closed-toed high heeled shoe, forced myself balancing and ending up tired after a long walk.. and the worst part --- getting the red marks all over (paltos area) afterwards. Next time try to observe, those who wear such often will most likely have lots of red marks. :)

But then.. I dont know what happened, no change agent but I started wearing higher heels start
of this year. I still prefer open-toed, but it's a goood improvement to have something else aside from flats. The recent one that I bought is a 2.5 inch (haha even used a ruler to measure that because of curiosity), which I usually wear to office. Wish me luck how long and how far can I keep up with it. :p

The Murano Joke

I like shopping in Greenhills for accesories - swarowski crystals, murano, beads, fancy stones,
etc. You know those small tranparent crystals with colored crystals carved inside it - i like them the
first time I saw them, but I actually dont know how is it called. I only remembered somebody mentioned a sound like 'nano'. I passed by a stall and asked a sales lady, blurted out 'miss ano nga ulit tawag dito, almurano ba'

The lady said, 'maam, murano po ang tawag'.. and then she turned her back and suddenly she kept on giggling on her own. She was turning red in laughter. That was the time I realized I made a boo-boo. I said to myself, parang may sounds-like na term ang 'almurano' na disease pero hndi ko sure. I just walked away very fast hehe.

That night, I ym-ed my close friend whom I'm comfortable to ask all the most sane and insane
questions in this world.

'uy tama ba may sakit na tawag ay almoranas',

'anong sakit yun', (no replies)..

'bilis, asan ka ba'
(buzzed)

Finally after a minute, i saw this message popped in my screen.

'Sorry po, wala si kuya, kapatid nya to, hinatid nya kasi si mama''

'Sabihan ko na lng cya pag balik nya, gamit ko kasi PC nya ngyon :)'

HOLY COW!

As expected, the next time we got to talk in ym, my friend kept on teasing me. I had already made 'research' and knew that almoranas means hemorrhoids.

He typed, 'Ano ba yan, may almoranas ka ba, kawawa ka naman'

I retorted back 'hindi noh, kapal mo wala ako nun.. and started telling the story about the saleslady.

Okay, the incident was already worthy of being the silliest thing, gatungan pa nung ym message - grand slam shocker. :p
