Last year, Jul 2010, out of 'nothing to do', I consulted again a manghuhula in Manila who is highly recommended by a neighbor. :p This so far is my 3rd attempt.
The 1st attempt was sometime when I was around 23, the only thing I remembered - I was told I will only get married after 30 :p. Whuaw how's that, what a bad news. :p
The 2nd attempt was when I was tinkering with the idea of working in SG. It gave me a bad card, saying something like it's gonna be a very hard hard task if I continue with it. Being a pasaway, I followed instinct and flew here.
So now this 3rd attempt, what has it revealed to me? (tarot+palm)
-my palm says I'm a 'layas' meaning adventurer. Hmm accurate.
-I'm hard-headed and matampuhin at times. Oops I'm in denial. :)
-pag may ginustong bilhin, bibilhin mo. Hmm sometimes accurate.
-mapili sa kaibigan. Hmm yeah it justifies why I'm anti-social at times.
the more exciting stuff:
-career: hindi ka boss. hindi yan ang peak mo, magshishine ka pa lalo in your next. I ask him anong next. He said maybe try mo magbisnes. (my sister told me malamang lahat ng filchi na nagpapahula sa knya sinasabihan nya magbisnes lol) - how in the world did he know lol. That idea has been swinging in my head for years. Nope I'm not a born rich kid with a conglomerate to inherit. Where shall I start?! This sounds exciting. I will welcome the time I can move my ass out of the rat race and dip it into something different. Ok dreaming. Sometimes I feel like I am getting the signs though. I asked further pero ndi ko pa nasubukan. He checked my palm again and said, your palm says 'hndi ka maghihirap, wala kang problema sa pera'... Wow too good to be true. I still feel poor at times lol.
-lovelife: parang may hinihintay kang bumalik, pabayaan mo lang. Ouch leche!
You will be hurt twice, tpos na ba? I was like 'huh'.
You will meet someone during last quarter (Oct), but you wont end up with him. Holy cow yes I did meet someone last Oct, jackpot lol. Nothing interesting bloomed out, just that I discover more about what annoying means :(. I will probably blog about this when I have time. :p
The good hula is, I will still get married daw. (And I thought it's a hopeless case!)
Anyway, this is just a past-time. I really dont follow this religiously. I dont encourage people to go for this and later be frightened/disappointed. Take everything with a pinch of salt.

French Fries
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-Njqzj8b-o All I can say from a marketing perspective: this ad is cool, very effective. The kids are just so adorable that I couldnt resist to buy my own fries. -See you attack a deeper layer into the emotions and get people to spend. Bravo. Cute.
As simple as this ad, I somehow remember the basic wants of a girl. Recently there was a catch-up with some friends. One of them was recently married and another was engaged. (It sucks when you reach this age when people around you start talking about wedding and you are still single hehe) It was a relief that there were still several singles in that crowd, I dont feel alone hehe.
Anyway, the topic was about their regrets and worries. One said she felt sad that her nanny passed away before her wedding and wasnt able to be there on her big day. She apparently was close to her nanny and said that if there's someone she wanted so badly to be there, it was her nanny. The engaged one said that she wished her grandmother would be strong enough, to be very much alive and kicking to witness her wedding. Then I asked, 'ay ndi ba parents yun pinakagusto mong andun?'. They were speechless for a while and then laughed, 'ay oo naman, pero yun nga lng yun mga regrets or fears kumbaga' Both of them have parents who are still alive.
I smiled and kept quiet. Onga naman that was a stupid question I blurted out.
Let alone the topic that there's no defined groom for me yet. I dont even have a dad to walk me down the aisle... Do you know how it feels?.......
Similar to the mcdo commercial, french fries lng naman ang gusto ko eh! :))
p.s. I dont really have much to say about this commercial being banned by the bishops. Mukhng wala talagang magawa mga tao. There are more important things to bother.

Time na?
Sometimes guys can be quite blunt, too blunt that you know they are not a bit interested in you that they dont think twice lol, no sugar coating.
Below is a narration of a sad fact of life, or rather it's actually a happy ending
I have a guy acquaintance whom I recently discovered to be married from facebook, I was soo surprised that I couldn't stop stalking virtually (read: virtual stalking is basic woman's instinct, or should i say even man's. In this virtual world, facebook knows best.)
I met this guy before coming to SG (probably sometime after I graduated). He's probably one of those extreme naughty guys from outer space, well I dont know if his stories were real though. His typical short encounters with someone he casually met from a bar, from work, from anywhere. In short, he wont 'hesitate' if there's an opportunity (that's the most I can describe in a wholesome post). I cant remember the exact details but seems like he had some bad break-up encounter before, and he did have quite high standards on women's physical appearance too. We lost touch until after I moved here. Out of the blue, he messaged me that he was here. We met up and again the humor popped up whether I wanted to be one of those 'girls'. Aba lakas ng loob. (Perhaps I dont have to tell what the response is, up to you to judge)
Sidenote: women are creatures who are hard to decipher.
If you get asked by someone you dont like, you'd feel nabastos ka.
If you dont get asked by someone you really really like, you'd also feel nabastos ka? It's a damn if you do, damn if you dont thing. Headache!
Anyway so after that, I dont know what happened to him until only recently when I saw his fb status and his wedding pictures. Basic woman's instinct again. The first thing you wanna know about such a naughty guy, so finally who did he end up with? Who is the lucky (or not-so-lucky) girl? :p How does she look like? And to my astonishment, it was such a surprise. For someone like him, I thought he'd end up with some pretty chinita. If I have to describe bluntly using his language, aba mas maganda pa katulong namin, seriously! Note: our househelper looks good because she does look like a kolehiala, much prettier than my other filipina friends). Sorry sometimes I can be cruel to people who are cruel :))
So back to the story, I greeted him over messenger and had a small talk. He strikes my curiousity. I wanted to know, why, why? :) So I told him, 'I didnt expect to see you married so soon. You're not the type of guy who will settle down'. He's in his early 30's btw. And again to my surprise, his response is bluntly 'Time na kasi'...
Did I hear correctly? I have the habit of asking the same questions consecutively when I dont get a satisfactory answer :)) Or actually sometimes when you keep asking, you dont get consistent answer. (Hmm sometimes it works for me like that hehe)
Then he added 'I still want to see my grandchildren'.
Wow how blunt is that. Deep inside, I am amused and laughing. See when guys are not interested in you, they dont really care to pick the right words. They just answer you bluntly.
Ok I am not expecting glamorous answers like 'I found the love of my life', or 'yeah we are so compatible, she's the one I'm waiting for'. But 'time na kasi'? Ouch. If I am the wife, double ouch. Ano yun, napilitan ka ata hehe just murmuring those in my head, I stopped asking before he finds me annoying.
Perhaps it is indeed true. Marriage is a state of mind. People who want to settle down will find a way to settle down. In the same way, people who dont want to settle down yet, will find a 100 excuses why not to. Anyway, I'm happy for him and wish him luck. I guess he's tired of playing too and wanted some serious stuff.
p.s. I still dont know who my prince is. I hope he knows where to find me.

Happy 4th
It's been 4 years since I moved here. Where did the time go?
As this number keeps increasing, I dont know whether it's a good or bad thing. I guess there are always 2 sides of a coin. At work, perhaps I dont have the right to rant about anything with what I'm paid. It's not really a lot, but for the lacking knowledge that I have, hell it's the first time you'd hear me saying 'ang hirap, d ko maintindihan, hndi kaya ng utak ko'. Would you believe I just worked on options trading. I blogged about options 3 years back, didnt expect to be working on it. The harsh atmosphere that I used to deal with has been replaced with a bearable/friendly one after more new hires came in. They probably felt I was too nice that they collectively gave me an Ipod nano as Christmas gift. :) Superb, never expected anything like it. I will just blog about these options and nano separately when I have the time.
My grammar has been seriously injured, so with the English accent. Almost 90% of the time, everything is present tense, plural form of a verb. My sister tells me I have no cure.
It's the first time when holiday is indeed a holiday, no one bugs me on holidays. Went to a few nearby countries, with Korea as my recent fave. Got mistaken for a Korean by local Koreans several times. I would love and choose to think it's a compliment.
Dont ask me about lovelife, because if I wont tell unless ... anyway common sense should probably tell you that if i have a deliriously happy one, I wont even have time to blog something worthless like this. Worst, I came to know my preferences. I am still who I am, so either you find me stunningly amazing or annoyingly stubborn.
---to be continued
p.s. couldnt help but to feel down today.. the only thing that cheered me up is the free take-home leftover goodie bag of creamy butter crabs by a flatmate.

Red Alert
Japan's on the news everywhere, earthquakes and tsunamis have become frequent visitors nowadays.
I saw a few footage of this drastic calamity wiping out Japan, scary. It looks like a movie, no it's real.
My heart goes to the victims. I couldnt shrug off the feeling, hey what if I happen to be a tourist in Japan hoping to get a glimpse of cherry blossoms but yet was greeted by these natural disasters instead. I sense trauma. It could just be anyone. Risk happens everywhere. In the end, it's still fate, if you are meant to die, you will. The question is, are you ready?
I was reminded of the 2012 movie. Oh yeah the movie is quite memorable to me. Memorable in what way, you'll probably hate me for being blunt. I was on a date watching it (sometime 2009) and all I was thinking... hmm if this is my last day on earth, who would I want to spend it with, and yeah you're right, somehow an image of a different guy surfaced on my mind, not the one beside me. Dont you just want to bump my head?! Ok ok that's a different story. hehe let's just laugh at it...
Anyway, the point is, calamities are inevitable. You can never plan too ahead. Because someone above has His own plans and His will will be done. You cant fight it. Your will be done - I wish I could be more spiritual. I'm just an ordinary person, who probably goes to Church only every Christmas eve. I should do better than that.
I dont know what else to write, I'm not really good with words. I do hope everyone should learn and always be alert. You'll never know what happens tomorrow.

Time is a Good Friend
Last Christmas, company held a Christmas Party for the charity reading events.
I arrived late at the party, my first notion was to look for Elvin (I blogged about him long back, he's the first kid I taught last March and I never bumped into him again in suceeding reading events). I dont really expect him to remember me on just one encounter. I just thought of probably looking at him from a distance, curious to find out how he is doing after like 9 months. (oops dont tell me this is any motherly instict! I dont wanna be an auntie hehe, pwedeng achi na lng :p)
So I looked at the crowd of like 30kids+, I cant recognize him, no choice but to give up searching.
So there's a quick graduation ceremony, perfect, I guess there's only one Elvin around who'd walk up the stage. This is how he looks like now.

Oh my time really flies.. he's grown so so much, I wouldnt know it's the same kid. Binata na. And he's very far from the shy kid I remember, I can see some confidence and kulit energy from him, playing with his friends. Probably he doesnt need me or anyone like me anymore.. he's doing good. And I'm happy for him.
The power of time never fails to amaze me:
...it leaves footprints behind those we touched or have touched us in their small little ways
...it changes a person's outlook and aspirations, goals and priorities, hopefully in a good light
...it heals every imperfection, every wound, both literally and figuratively
...it makes you forget the bad, the ugly, if you want to
...it magically makes you remember the good, the beautiful when you look back
...it makes you realize how stupid you were with the mistakes you did and puts a smile on your face easily
...it makes you proud while recounting the accomplishments you've made
...it gives you some sour regrets for things you failed to do
...it makes you shudder how much of time passes without you feeling its passage
...it challenges you to make the coming days better than the elapsed days
...it gives you hope into the journey for the future
Yeah, just always give me some time, I just need some time perhaps. The right time at the right place, perfect timing.
Time will always be one of my best friends! Cheers to you :)

Christmas 2010 and Scribbles
Few days before Christmas time.. and yet i still dont genuinely feel it, except for a few parties on hand.
It's the first time I attempted to give a little christmas feel to my room. :)

This year was again a different year compared to previous years.
For one, I tried to move to a better job since I dont really seem to have a better reason to go home yet, I would wish I had, so as to spare me of some guilt... And this job has seized me by the neck. Fortunately things turn out ok so far, as they say the best way to conquer an enemy is to befriend him. Me and teammate are now ok, nilaglag nga lng ako pero tinulungan pa rin naman ako in the end :). Nothing much to rant.
I seemed to live in depression for about 2 months last year after the careles accident at home and rushing myself to emergency alone, dont worry I can laugh about it now. It might sound like a biggie, but this seems to be the most difficult issue I've faced after my dad passed away. Scary to be standing in the mirror everyday, trying to ignore the obvious but yet still thinking 'what the hell has just happened'. I felt uneasy, cant blame it women are women, they worry about how they look. When it's there, it's there, which is quite true. Thank God time heals all wounds, let's just leave it like that. Totally ignored.
And even I didnt expect I could regain the confidence and had this overwhelming photoshoot where I felt like a star. It was the first time I felt excited and insisted to my friend, 'hey put your (logo) watermark on it!' And I started using my marketing ideas for a tagline for her website, that is targeted to premium market. It goes something like this: 'Youth and beauty are priceless, let me capture them and make them forever'. She said 'wow, ang classy naman ng pagkaoffer ko, may talent ka sa mga ganyan ha'. Hehe of course I dont want to be the sole person to benefit from the effort, I think the pictures she has taken of me would be quite good to put in her website, the lighting, postproc, and my expressions are good (I dont know how I did it too) :) And as another advertising effort, I tried chitchatting with my MUA (make up artist) and she requested me to send her the pictures. I was betting maybe 50:50 she'll use use my pix. And yes, she liked it and put it on her website as well (cause it would also benefit her to show off her makeup and hairstyling skills). Sometimes you can kill two birds with one stone. Everybody happy kumbaga. :)
I didnt make good progress with love, if I can only force myself or teach my heart, I would have done so eons back. Sometimes my friend and I have this funny saying 'God kung magbibigay ka ng lalaki, lubus-lubusin mo naman sana, wag installment, may sablay eh' :))
I think my cooking skills have improved, or at least the decoration skills have :) My dishes look more appetizing now. I'm in the midst of honing my 'specialty dish' hehe. At least some fallback career when I retire, maybe I can do catering. Wow dream big! Honestly I cant cook for more than 2-3, mahirap magtantya talga. So there's much more practice needed here.
I travelled two places this year: Cambodia and Vietnam. I think I'm done with Southeast Asia. I like to travel, so many more spots to go. Yeah I love Europe and am still having this crazy idea that the time I'll be going there will be on honeymoon. My friend scolded me, 'gaga malaki ang Europe, just leave Italy and France on the last, until you get a yummy guy to marry to'. Ok this is normal for girltalk, dont squeak. Here's my converstaion with God: 'Lord, kung ndi mo pa ako bibigyan ng asawa, sana matinong travel buddy man lng '. :))
Stepping into 30 is again another scary number haha. But probably I just want to make peace with myself and hopefully be at peace with everyone. As much as possible I dont want to lie to myself anymore. Sometimes I feel I lie to myself too much. :D And I aint gonna worry about tomorrow. Life is just going to be simple. :)

As much as possible I dont want to lie to myself anymore. Sometimes I feel I lie to myself too much. :D And I aint gonna worry about tomorrow. Life is just going to be simple. :)

One Year Again!
Tomorrow marks my 1yr at work. Hmm this is a milestone :D Time really flies.
I have so many things to say about this year! but too little time to blog. Still busy packing my balikbayan box at this second for my take-home goodies + disposal of my unwanted garbage as well :) As my sister puts it, 'wag mo na isama basura mo!' But what can I do, I dont have enough space!
Work is a little manageable now, no more instances to piss me off (keeping my fingers crossed). I suddenly become a release manager for the upcoming release next year, whatta name, but yeah I still prefer to be a follower, really! And oh there's occasional layoff (a dramatic one, I will blog next time). I care less now, kung matanggal man, SO? I'm really getting old, dont have the energy to waste time on these rants :D
Sharing one of my fave pix from the cheongsam shoot (aint over with it) :p I love this shot, my friend has labelled this as 'Wishful Thinking'. There seems to be elements of hope and tint of positivity. - exactly what I need, or everyone needs if I may say so. :)

Happy holidays!
P.S. I think this song suits the picture, one of my LSS last month
蘇打綠-無眠
你現在想著誰 有沒有和我相同的感覺
固執等著誰 卻驚覺已無法倒退
曾經想一起飛 在自己心中蓋了座花園
把你的一切 都種在這個地點
卻像魚守在裡面
Quick Translation:
who are you thinking of now, do we feel the same way
stubbornly waiting, yet knowing there's not much turning back
dreamt of flying together, grooming a garden in one's heart
have all about you, planted in this spot
and be like a fish, guarding inside it
It was too artsy, I am not sure how the garden relates to the fish, perhaps there's a fish pond inside it :p. But yeah even if I dont get it, anything catchy catches my attention. :)

Ooops dont dwell too much on the voice/gender or whatever, I dont know the gender too, but I like the lyrics and melody :)

So hard to say goodbye...
It's been a long time since I last cried.
Again, another friend is leaving. Not just a friend, but rather a best friend. My kumare had decided to take another role from her company's Europe office. I just sent her off to airport few minutes ago. I thought I'd be able to hold back, but then tears just kept falling and we both were laughing and crying at the same time.
Living away from home for the past 3 years have been bearable because of really good friends like her. We have too many similar interests that made it so effortless to blend. And now with her leaving is like one less friend, one less good listener, confidant, activity partner. Unknowingly there are people who have become too integral part of your life, they're among the first few people you think of when you want to share a good news, and also the first you run to when you have burdens that have become too heavy to carry. When they are away, you suddenly feel lost on how to live a life again without them. :(
People come and go, but I wish I find more of those who really stay. It's quite emotionally stressful to send people off. :((
I wrote this quote in my goodbye email in my last company.. it suits the mood tonight 'We part to meet again'....

I Wanna Sleep Some More!
Recently I read in a Yahoo article that the ideal number of sleep hours is 7. Too little is obviously not good, but I didn’t know that too much of it is also not good and can cause strokes.http://health.usnews.com/health-news/family-health/heart/articles/2008/07/17/too-much-too-little-sleep-linked-to-stroke-risk.html
I am forcing myself to sleep early every night, but seems like I don’t succeed in doing so. Thanks to all the bad influences that have made this a chronic and unbreakable habit for me lol. I seem to be struggling everyday in the morning. (these were the days before the doomsday project)
Extreme case: I was in the office pantry, half-awake. Normally we have this reflex to turn a mug upside down to make sure there’s no water in it before dispensing coffee or any drink. I did the same, guess what, I forget I had just placed oatmeal on it. Viola, I spilled all the oats into the floor. Luckily no one is around, I silently tiptoed back to my seat like a quiet mouse. :p
Actually my previous job requires to be in office at 10am. Present job is a bit earlier, we should be in at 9:30am. Both are already considered late, normal standards are usually 9am or even 830am here. But hey sleeping 5 extra minutes in the morning feels actually like heaven!
If drowsiness can kill, I guess I would have been dead decades ago.
The biggest accomplishment on my July vacation was that I was able to wake up at 11am for four straight mornings. Thanks to the fantastic weather: no doubt it was raining every single day that added more to my laziness.
After starting to work from graduation, this is the only time I was able to do it again. I’ve always dreamt of a stint of bumming period, but seems like I am meant for a busy life :( Spot the common denominator in the number series...
1st job: May 17 to Apr 5
2nd job: Mar 26 to Dec 22
3rd job: Dec 5 to present
Job start dates…my last day of work is always overlapping with the next job! Pathetic! Loser! I cant seem to negotiate well. Or to be frank, all were unplanned job changes and career shifts, I am not confident people will wait for me :(
My mom used to say, ‘ndi ka pa naman sobrang naghihirap sa pera, you can afford a few days off before starting’. Huhu I also don’t know why I always mess up.
And I wonder when I sleep, can I dream inside a dream and how many layers are possible? Inception mode? I’m afraid to fall into limbo.
Ok ok this has gone way too far as an entry for sleeping.
Don’t take me wrong. I just want to sleep, not die. I still want to wake up!

Men are from Mars...
Sometimes there are really men who are too dense. Ok I am also dense at times because I can get soaked up in my thoughts easily and ignore hints around me. But I feel men are worse, for mistaking even the obvious. Oops.An easy one, take for example a number’s game. 90% of the time, the numbers that a woman uses are usually related to some important dates around her. It can be her birthday, her anniversary date (though I don’t recommend unless you are sure your bf won’t change), her parent’s birthday or wedding anniversary date, her favorite number, a date or a number that has a significant meaning, etc. But do avoid using such on your bank pin codes, but it should be fine for online account names. Net, it’s quite rare that it’s a number out of nowhere.
Whenever a fellow lady asks me for my messenger id, and I give them XXXXX716, it’s almost always 100% obvious to them that it sounds like a birthday. I would automatically get questioned, ‘oh your birthday falls on July?’ On the opposite, a guy could be talking to me for months in ym and has no idea what the numbers are for. See the difference?
Ok to be more explicit, I recently talked to a guy friend. He had a gf for the past 3 years, and he suddenly gets dumped for reasons he doesn’t have any clue and it’s killing him. He had been filial all the while. He tried all sorts of ways to win her back, countless attempts. Including standing in front of her house on a Christmas eve and he wasn’t let in, not until her parents let him in.
I, of course, don’t know what exactly happened but obviously this Christmas eve story sounds way too much. Honestly, from a girl’s perspective, this sounds like hopeless. There is a very thick line between ‘pakipot’ and ‘its over’. Different girls have their own pakipot ways, that I cannot expound clearly as it’s more of a gut feel.
Nevertheless, I don’t want to provoke a suicidal guy haha. In an attempt to help him write a birthday note for her, I composed the short lines below. Magnifico.
...Happy happy birthday. Wishing you all the best cause you really deserve it. I miss the days having you around in my life and I hope you could give us another chance. But if this is not what your heart truly desires, I sincerely wish you happiness and peace of mind. Thank you for sharing your life with me for the past 3 years. God bless.
Short and sweet isn’t it? I like. Not too edgy. Kung ako iyon, ndi ko cguro matitiis, unless I have a heart of stone, I think I would at least do something. Ok ok enough of being nosey in other people's businesses..
Hmm what do I have to say about Mars? Despite few people frequently asking for my opinion about their love issues, personally I don’t feel qualified at all to give guidance on such matters! I’ve previously dreamt of having a child before hitting 30. To accomplish that means I should be running around now like a mad whore every night and conceive in a few week’s time in order to make it happen. Probability: 0. And the reason of having 0 is that I might also be living in my own Mars.
Let me a cite a straight-forward one. When I visit Manila, looks like I am now bearing a sticker on my forehead that reads: ‘Beware, LDR’. Do not attempt the uncertain. (Google might not have the translation, it’s an unofficial yet common acronym that sprouted out of nowhere, especially in the world of overseas workers). In a world where physical presence is favored over cyber presence, I know. And yet, there seems to be a common statement people throw at me so frequently. If I happen to talk to random people in Manila and when I cannot relate to something localized that we are discussing and happen to flash a puzzled look saying ‘ay bkit ndi ako alam ito’, I will be immediately replied with ‘eh lagi ka naman wala d2’. :p It’s just a neutral statement of course, perfectly fine, nothing to be annoyed with because it's true. Just that… how should someone in Mars interpret it? Is it as it is or am I supposed to dwell on it if there’s any other attached implication. If I don’t dwell on it, I sometimes can become an official resident of Mars. If I dwell on it, it can also appear like my imaginations are way over nirvana.
Ok enough before my tongue slips.. my pen slips.. or even my finger slips in this blog. Let’s just remember this, whichever planet we are in now, can we all go back to Earth once in a while and speak in simple English, even if you dont have any major major problem. (Raj syndrome Aug 2010).
P.s. A funny entry in the midst of chaos in hostage incidents.
... and I am still lagging 30+ entries behind!

A Different View on Birthdays
People who know me probably would know how I used to fancy birthday greetings and birthday parties and all. Being a person who claims to have passion for life, I’ve always considered birthdays as a blessing. It just happens once a year, it wouldn’t hurt to celebrate no matter how busy I am or how lack of money am I running through. Actually to be precise, I have witnessed the lack of it, and so I do cherish it more. (I am not a party animal either)
This year, I finally seem to relate to people who prefer to be low-profile on birthdays. I have a close college friend who took out all his birthday reminders registered online. I even asked him ‘mamatay ka ba pag binati ka’. He replied, ‘hindi naman, hndi ko lng feel, pero gusto ko rin malaman kung sino tlaga nakaalala’. I answered back with a joke, ‘hindi pa rin yan accurate, malamang naalala ka lng dahil may reminder sa cellphone. Khit ako bka makalimutan kitang batiin kung nalowbat ako kasi hndi ko memoryado ang bday mo!’. It was just a whim, what he said actually has a point, khit ba na celphone reminder may effort pa rin.
True, or should I say sadly, in the gadgets and dotcom world, no one remembers birthdays by heart anymore.
I don’t know what air brings me to this realization this year. It suddenly makes sense. I disabled all the reminders that I can remember to have registered online: facebook, friendster, yahoogroups, etc. I am not thirsty for greetings, but I can be honest to admit that I am still probably dying to hear sincere birthday greetings from a few bunch of people who really matters to me (say probably 10). And I really do appreciate people who remembered. Childish, but a fun gambling game.
And yes, to my disappointment there were like 3 or 4 people who still missed it! Better late than never, but I still appreciate people who remember on time. May konting kirot pero ok lng, it makes it easier to filter out which people takes a conscious effort and which don’t. hahaha. Just for a change. :)
Kidding aside, I guess at this point in time, this is what I can say in my blog:
The hardest person to lie to … is not other people, but rather, myself.
Have a blessed everyone, this year and all the nexts!

Just a Little Make-up
In the world of false eyelashes everywhere, I always find it an amusing skill to learn. How in the world do Oriental chinky-eyed ladies make their eyes so vividly big? And yet till now I still did learn any of it…

Funny and coincidentally, there were two instances where people did some ‘coloring’ on my face last week, it was a fortunate accident to remind me that we all have the right to become beautiful, in our own eyes at the very least. And that is despite age. Oops I don’t mind admitting my age, there are 2 things to it:
- As much as possible, act like your age
- As much as possible, don’t look like your age
Hmm now that is something hard. :)

Think What You Wanna Think
I again slept late and woke up late today. Noticed some red marks on my neck, sheesh dont know where I got the rashes from. Nevertheless I put on nice white blouse, got my bread and started my usual rush ride.
Some meeting got me occupied whole morning with my team and boss. (10+ people). Having me seated and listening to people speaking on a meeting has become so painful nowadays, my attention span is very bad. Can you just cut the crap, I wanna go back to my seat or take a power nap, even if it's at the ladies room I dont care, as long as it is newly cleaned.
The napster teammate suddenly messaged me, 'How was your weekend'
I answered, 'quite good, the usual'
He said, 'Looks like you had so much fun'
I answered, 'Yup'
Then he said, 'Hmm better be careful next time :p'
I said, 'I cant get you'
He said, 'You should know... never mind'
After a little more talking, I asked him directly 'Are you referring to the red marks on my neck'. He just smiled and said 'just be careful'
I was a bit shocked. From what I know, we werent close, none that I remember?
They are rashes my dear. I wouldnt deny it if it was true. Had it been true, I probably would have used better clothing with turtle neck collar to cover up, hell we are all way past the tweetums age of feeling 'proud' to get such souveniers isnt it. And yeah, in the team I am the only female of Oriental origin. And this guy is the only unmarried male, who has the guts to ask me such crazy question. He said he just voiced out so I could be aware what the rest of the guys in the meeting might be thinking... I wonder if I should be annoyed or be thankful that he told me coz I totally didnt care initially. Ok fine, I'd probably make a good joke for today.
He reminds me of another instance when I was avoiding another one from his race. 'I think my fave brand of jeans would look good on you'. ???
When you have a company full of brainiacs, expect some topak people.
Times like this remind me how racist I can be...

Misadventures and Reality
May 28 (Fri) was a holiday here. Since it's a long weekend, my friend and I hooked up for a KTV night. We had dinner and decided to try a first time at Kallang Leisure Mall, as it is the nearest mall to both our houses (our houses are just a station apart and the mall is a 4 short stations away from my house). We arrived there 10pm and a bigg room was given to us since it's running fullhouse. Big meaning it can hold 10pax and there's even a projector screen. Awesome, I've never sung with such a humongous screen, quite an experience. But after a few minutes, small rooms were vacated by others and we took over a normal-sized room. Nevertheless it was fun. We were singing latest pops to 90's to 80's. Since it was almost midnight where cab rates have already doubled, we decided we wanna do some more hours. We finished late, very late, wee hours of the morning. We walked out of the mall and roads were quite manless and cabless.
My friend suggested that we go to main road, and if we're lucky, we might even spot a Night Rider bus. Main Road looks near.. but after like 2minutes walking with empty lots beside the mall, and 2 chinese male strangers who I didnt notice were walking behind us, I told my friend, 'let's head back to the mall and call a cab'. (Calling a cab just have an extra charge of 2.5sgd) I know I have the habit to be praning (exaggerately cautious) about walking in the night, despite Singapore being a safe country.
***..
Back in Manila, I try not to take cabs at night, and if I do, I will have to murmur a prayer and hope I get out alive. :p Thanks to filchis having an elite kidnappable stature in Philippines, and my complexion seems to make it harder to camouflage in the general public. I was robbed in a Morayta jeep in college days, a man sat beside me and kept edging near. I was bringing my first ever self-bought pink Girbaud bag from OJT salary. I could feel a sharp object being nudged against my bag. I was feeling stiffed, I couldnt move or shout coz if I do, probably my stomach would have a hole. The jeepney trip ended and the man was not successful to take anything out of my bag, as it was a nerd's bag with notebooks, and the wallet/cellphone were luckily on another side. I went down shaking. My bag had several cuts at one end. And of course, it was never used again, no chance of repair. That is the worst encounter, I still have a few other similar incidents, mostly as witness and not a victim.
We headed back and called a cab, the trip was quite short. I was dropped off first since my house was nearer. I went up to my unit. To my surprise, the main gate doesnt open. I tried yanking the key, it just DOESNT open. Holy shit, I didnt know tbat in this house we moved to, my housemates are actually locking the main gate like that, 'double lock', 'child lock', coz I hardly go home at wee hours of the morning. I called my flatmates and no one responded. Sh*t again, seems like both of their phones were on silent mode. Countless doorbells, but I dont know if they can hear it. Countless knocking. (like what I wrote earlier in a blog entry, u felt that you kept knocking all your life that your hands have bled, of course just figuratively).
After 30min struggle, I was so damn angry and upset and tired and perspiring and sleepy. I gave up and thought of other options. The nearest decent 3star
hotel would cost me 200sgd. The cheapest option is the motel just across the next road, 70sgd, but sleeping there might be another problem and not a solution.
My phone was also about to die, with only 1 bar left. I managed to sms my friend, 'Can u send me your exact address. I am locked out. Seems like I need to sleep in your place. Sorry'. Times like this you realize hell I dont memorize anyone's number or anyone's address for that matter, Battery please dont die or else I dont know how to get through the night. And thankfully, my friend answered. Good thing she lives near and I was with her so she should still be awake. I waited some time in the nearest bus stop (again, manless), and took a cab to her place.
That's it. Being locked out is not funny, especially if you have it a second time. (refer to my earliert incident of being locked out)
And life goes on.
3 Days after, I was watching TV on a normal Monday night dinner. I have not watched TV in the last 2 years+ as the TV unit was faulty and TV is not really an essential thing for me. It's only when we moved in to the new place that I started watching TV again. Surprisingly I was watching news and not variety shows that night. What I heard was shocking. 4 people were robbed and nabbed in Kallang area on May 30 (Sun) early hours in the morning. 1 of them was killed. The others on ICU, one had his fingers dangling. It was a violent robbery. Only 2 of the 4 identified culprits were arrested then. Below has the story:

I couldnt believe this can happen in SG???!!!! Last time I heard something similar was probably 3 years back in Manila. Where such things could be a commonplace elsewhere.
... AND I couldnt believe I was there in Kallang exactly a day before it happened.
Ok I'm still alive..

Sometimes the sun still shines...
For the first 5 months in the new company, I was such a loser, always worrying I cant understand what the foreign exchange trading application is trying to do. I only see bunch of exchange rates floating for different currencies and changing every millisecond, and when you place a trade, there is so much logic in the strategy how the bank implements it and manages the risk by hedging it to different ECNs (Reuters, EBS, etc). I really DONT know what is the expected behavior, coz I simply dont know where to start. And yes, so many interruptions in life, and even the boss asked me during a one-on-one session if everything's alright with me. Yes, my focus was so bad obviously. And I was not trying harder.
Apart from the usual stuff, the first ever project assigned to me was actually a no-brainer boring integration project. The bank was acquired 2 years ago by another bigger bank. This project was just mainly checking how the transition goes and login scenario should be ok. There were few hiccups and finally everything was resolved.
Come friday (a day before signoff) sometime early May, a major booboo came out. Functionally I have verified it to be ok. Just that login suddenly stopped working with java1.4 and I didnt know when. (I was using 1.6, what the h*ll do I know about java?) Hell it was so humiliating, I wanted to dig a cozy hole and jumped into it and hide from everybody. The harm was done, I spoiled my name. Last remedy fixes resurrected it. The cost of the nigthmare was that all of us extended till 12midnight on a friday and I had to cancel a movie (of which I already pre-booked online, gone to waste), and I guess I would have had harsh feedbacks thrown on me somewhere in the chaos.
With all the forces working against me, I finally realize I had to help myself. It's no excuse that I still dwell on contemplating that this is a totally new field to me (not my usual data warehousing). They say 'hundred times reading reveals the meaning'. With a mind that is set to learn, and again reusing my common sense (thank God I still have a few left), suddenly I understood. Literally like a light bulb igniting.
The following 3 days was the peak of my learning curve. I was testing the 'engine' and criticizing every logic that I can possibly break and question. Engine is the execution engine meaning the core, the heart of the trading application. Limits, fillkills, maker/taker, bid/offer, all of it. Orders placed using icebergs and snipers strategy, quite challenging. I think even my boss was surprised how in the earth did I manage to catch up suddenly (and I hope he should know by now not to assign me any no-brainer projects anymore coz it is where I usually screw up!). I actually dont know. I just had one thing in my mind back then: Kelangan ko na talagang bumawi. Finally put my name out of the 'useless people' list.
I was glad the saying 'you cant teach an old dog new tricks' probably doesnt hold true all the time. Back in HP, I remembered there were experienced folks hired. And yet it was taking them so long to pick up a new system. And these are the people who would always prefer doing the 'admin work' and not really wanting to learn the functional/domain knowledge of an application/project. I realize I am not really meant for a talkie job nor a people person :p. I'd rather quit corporate world, quit IT, and do something else if I'm totally useless..
That's it. Hope to hear less rants from me about work. And I dont think I would be keen to shift work focus again, it's not always lucky that I can adjust to a new environment.
Sometimes shit has to happen to jerk us back to reality. :)

A House to House Your Heart & Soul :p
Managed to put a little personal touch in my new room. Adding a new item to my collection, the naughty pet which took me some time to find one. Aint it cuddly.

After much drama and struggle and reluctance, finally settled :p. First time I understood the meaning of 'compromise' in the truest sense. It was still a
right decision actually, but somehow probably I just know I wont fall in love with the new place the way I did previously. Funny but I did learn a lot about myself, my weaknesses, my preferences, my pet peeves, and what matters. Anyway it's a done deal. I would be fine. I am fine. Let's not bother as there are more important things to bother hehe.
Ok I rarely talk about lovelife-related stuff in the blog :p. But here's one:
Similarly in choosing a partner in the future I guess. As you grow old, it's actualy not just about choosing someone with qualities you like, more importantly it's about choosing someone you are sure doesnt have something you DONT like, things that you cant bear and cant live with, someone you wont regret over. Whew, more than dating several guys, this chapter is much more effective really. :p

It's About Giving
After my family went back from their vacation, my sister kept chasing me about the expenses that I cashed out, but I dont intend to let them pay. Yes it did quite rip me off big time. She insisted and argued, but I won. :) Anyway I did more stunner stupid things to other people. Below is another winning entry.
There was a time in 07 where i helped my barkada (from Manila) bought a laptop in the IT show here and 'abono' for it . Queues in IT show are really more than u can imagine. Queued in the cashier, queued in the claiming counter, queued in the freebie collection counter. After I went home then I realized the laptop was not booting up no matter how hard I tried. (I know I should have tested it, but IT show was so jampacked like sardines that I dont have space and lost the energy to test the unit!) Thanks to the big help from call center who kept asking 'is the switch on', 'is the power button turning red', 'can you reboot it' when I called for guidance. Next day I went on half day leave, returning the laptop back to the store and after some troubleshooting, the culprit was the installation of the free RAM upgrade. Sorry my limited knowledge doesnt include RAM installation. My other friend laughed at me and kept asking why. I just cant possibly ignore and send a crap back home, my reputation at stake you know haha. (Besides, what if this friend wont pay me back :p) Kidding aside, that same night I had to meet a common friend to send the (fixed) laptop back to Manila, and the tiring day finally ended. And till now this friend doesnt know how much trouble I went through. In fairness to Toshiba, I did everything to save its name!

No matter how the whole world goes crazy over Apple's ipad and iphone and macbook (no offense I'm just not a fan), when it comes to laptop. I will choose Toshiba. As I said, I will choose quality as usual. Long lasting - that is the word. Unfortunately, I am not using a Toshiba haha. Coz my 3year old Lenovo laptop is still kicking alive after my bro-in-law resurrected it from the slowless-of-a-turtle-state (thanks to Vista!) via repartitioning. (Sheesh I dont know if I am qualified to be in IT) :p
That is the last time I bought something for another person in an IT show. Only direct family members can now enjoy that privilege.
Enough of the unpaid advertisement, going back...
At those few times, it's something beyond words but the willingness to sacrifice to help people get what they want. I dont need you to know what I exactly did. But I probably felt you're worth it while doing it. Just a little subtle appreciation would do. Because..
能够為一件事或一個人執著, 那種感覺很幸福.
就算你不知道, 或选择看不刭, 也都無所謂了.

Goodnight world.

Bonding with Family & Univ Studio peeks
Finally had some quiet time to blog again.
My family came over end of April to early May, and this time even the kids tagged along! I already expected a mini-circus kind of thing going on everyday. Luckily, it all ended smooth and well.
I find it amusing to have my 7yr old nephew asking me about the aquarium. The house I newly moved in has an aquarium, unfortunately fishes died a few days after we moved in (oops talk about improper care/negligence :p). My nephew clearly told me this in a serious tone 'yi-yi, next time dont overfeed the fishes, take care of them and they will grow biiig, then you buy vitamins and then you can sell them...' I was surprised he knew so many things. Then he added 'You can check my fishes in Fishville'. :p This is a winner!
The highlights of the trip would be Universal Studios. It's also my first time there. I seem to have this funny fancy feeling about going to theme parks and carnivals. It gives me a sense of security and simple happiness. The warmth of family I guess (I didnt have a lot of such carnival memories in Manila when i was younger) Anyway, the best rides would be Rapids adventure, Shrek 4D, Revenge of the Mummy (just go google to see what they are).
As it was Mother's day then, I have been wanting to give my mom a surprise long back, the OSIM back massager. I know she will scrimp over the price of anything so I better let her try it before buying it. The moment she tried it on in the mall, I can see the glitter in her eyes. That's it, sold. And now back in Manila, she seems to be enjoying it almost every night. :) Hmm this is an unpaid advertisement but I do welcome people to keep hitting this post to increase my Google adsense points. :p

Other places that we visited are the usual Sentosa, Esplanade/Merlion Park, Orchard shopping, gadget shopping in Funan, zoos. Foodtripping is, of course, a must, a priority. :)

Side note:
This is probably the first time I have to send my family back to airport. (earlier ones either I joined them in the flight back, or we parted some other place). I think I have become quite immuned about 'me leaving' (over the years I have been flying to and fro anyway), I didnt know sending someone off in the airport is rather saddening. Add to it my nephew asked me something I wouldnt expect to hear from a kid. I was waving at them as they crossed the immigration, smiling as they waved back. Till I got to mrt, I seemed not able to hold back. There goes depression for one or two days thereafter.

Wrong Timing
My health failed me. Yesterday, dropped dead in bed at 830pm, the first in the last 2 decades I think. Woke up 730am the next day (today). And still feel sleepy the whole day. Colds, sore throat and slight fever (according to clinic). What a good timing to be sick!
Funny how past things I've said seem to have a flashback recently.
I remember one of my preachy statements in previous blog goes like 'if you cant change the situation, change your attitude'. a truckload of bs.
There's one thing that seems to tickle me. I dont know why I feel tempted. Two years ago my friend asked me about a same topic, and my answer was a clear no, would not even consider. Somehow now I seem to be entertaining the possibility. Talk about irony.
I still get impressed when someone can ride along and comment wittily on my feeling-deep train of thoughts:
me: it's hard to get back where you left off
kausap: well if you keep communicating, then I guess there won't be a point where you left off.
*claps*
The person who referred me to current company has already left, after earning 5k+ sgd from me. (talk about earning 150K+ php for just referral fee, some banks here even give 10k sgd as referral fee) However despite the big amount, I'm not enthusiastic in referring anyone. I prefer to keep my worklife private, with not much familiar faces roaming around me :p. Anyway, this person resigned because he was pirated to another similar company, with a humongous signing bonus and salary hike. Just today, got a call from him whether I'd like to join again, for another big leap (hike). Tempthing but too crazy! I dont think I can just hop around like a butterfly. I havent even earned any accomplishment yet, too early.
I should have gone to watch a Chinese movie here in j8 (mall beside the house) to enjoy my last late-night movie within walkable distance. Too bad can't, with the colds.
The same day as my moving day, a colleague will be having a housewarming party. I was somehow obliged to go to mingle. I hate PR stuff. I have so much unpacking to do with my ever-growing baggages, or I would have rather wanted to sleep.
I still have few things left to pack. This is the last post. Next would be done from Eunos. I dont know if my internet connection would be swapped right away as promised.
