Iron Man and What Planet Are You From

Here goes again my review of some movies/koreanovela I watched recently

Iron Man

Iron man is cool. First time I see Robert Downey Jr in a superhero kind of movie. The only thing I remembered about him is that he starred in Only You, a romance-comedy movie frequently aired in HBO, which happens to be my HS bestfriend's favorite. She always urges me to watch it, it's about a girl searching for her destiny, a man named Damon Bradley as shown in the game of ouija board. Unfortunately I never got to watch it in totality. Going back to Iron man, Robert plays a a sort of crossover villain-superhero figure, a playboy but still cares for his personal assistant Pepper, makes him running like crazy to save her when he knew she's in the hands of the enemy.

Pepper is cool too! I never did like Gwyneth Paltrow, she gives me a droopy uninteresting impression. I like her role here in Iron Man, I wanna be Pepper. :) Overall, basta ndi ako nakatulog is considered good movie. :p

What Planet Are You From?

Finally a koreanovela that meets my standards again. :)

It's about a director with his pretty and rich gf of which her family is against the relationship. The gf died in a morbid car accident, the guy proposing to her with a ring while driving, then suddenly got hit by a truck. The guy was devastated. 3 years after he went to a province and met a probinsyana girl who looks exactly like her dead gf. They become close and laging nagkukulitan. The probinsyana was soo funny with her braided hair and losyang clothes, like galing sa bundok, so many mischiefs. One day it turned out that this probinsyana is the long lost younger sister of the dead gf. She was claimed back by the rich family. Obviously the conflict revolves around the fact that they can't be together. Good ending, as finally they got the approval of the family.

It was a good laugh trip. The kulitans are just so natural and kilig! :p Chemistry is good. The female lead is ultra pretty and tisay. I've watched the male lead several times (starred in Love Story in Harvard too), and I'm starting to love him hehe. He's just simply an epitome of an ideal boyfriend in this series, sweet and understanding, and giving in to the probinsya's requests).

Hmm not much dragging moments, though I'd say the first half is more fun. I'd give a 4.5 stars (out of 5).

My 4-5 stars list would include:
Winter Sonata - gorgeous male lead. :p Amnesia theme.
Autumn Love Story - morbid love story with female lead dying of cancer. Sort of brother-sister relationship who cant be together.
Stairway to Heaven - fast pacing. couple in childhood who cross paths again. most morbid ending so far of all I've watched.
Princess Hours - laugh trip. poor girl turned princess. funny with her crude manners yet won the heart of the real prince.
Love Story in Harvard - a lawyer and a doctor, striving for success
My Name is Kim Sam Soom - old maid patisserie who fell for her young boss
Lovers in Paris - rich guy falling for his part-time cleaner in Paris

Pitstop for May

Good Riddance
And I say Adios with a big grin. Finally the nightmare will be over soon. Goodbye annoying creatures. I hope decent housemates will be coming in June/July. And I finally wont have the tuyo smell in the house. In case we manage to get all female housemates, whew I can walk around the house again without wearing hmm hmm haha like what I used to back in my home in Manila. Next thing is I hope nobody subscribes to TFC or does TV marathon day and night. And that would be a house that I'll be looking forward to come home to. Well yeah there's no home concept for OFW, it's just a house and will always be. The heck, as long as my own room is cozy, I don't give a d*mn. :p

Fast
Funny how this people in the office makes 'loko' to me. 'Whew Leslie is fast', I've heard several times from my teammates. The good thing I or we inherited from service management in my previous company is the 'think fast, work fast' syndrome. Hindi pwedeng kukupad-kupad. Sure this month's going quite fast too. Fast because I have so much work. I don't have much time to think. Good logic, the busier you are, the less time you have, the less you think, the less you worry. Makes sense right?

Hello NUS
I finally submitted my credentials for assessment to NUS (Natl Univ of SG). Well actually it's just a short 1-month course, not a long-term MBA thing. Just last May 15, I got the notice that I am in! :p Excited to be a student again! but of course I'm again killing myself cause this is also the most crucial/ busiest time of the project. I'll be juggling my time like crazy. I still have some worries on it, I havent enrolled yet, maybe next week I really have to finalize all. For the heck of just trying a top univ in Asia, cge lng. :)

Leisure Classes
Last Sat is my last guzheng class. Unfortunately I didnt learn as much because I dont have something to practice at home. That ancient wooden instrument would cost me a 800-1k sgd, which I think is too much for an absurd hobby? :p Another thing I'm sad I didnt manage to take a picture while playing it inside the class. My classmates are a young girl probably 10years old, a matrona, a strange-dressing Shanghaiese woman with so much burloloy. I dont have a prospect to give me a cam shot, nahiya ako :p. Just recently I can hear the same familiar sounds of guzheng played from a neighbor's house, gusto ko ng igate-crash para manghiram hehe.

I'm also glad that probably because of my somewhat eager and strange passion for attending these classes, I have influenced two close friends to take leisure classes. One friend took a French course, and my kumare signed up for yoga. See I'm a good influence? :p Thanks to my housemate who passed on this passion to me, and now I am doing the same passing the passion to a few others.

Uwi Syndrome
Yes I do miss home. I wanna go home and have a long vacation. I wanna go to places I havent been to, Circles, Embassy, etc. Thought it seems like circumstances are giving me reasons to go home frequently end of this year. (which I'm not sure is a good thing or not, cause I'll be overspending on air tickets and pasalubong!) Aside from July, I already booked one for my pamangkin's binyag on Sept. Another wedding is coming up on Oct which I havent booked yet. Whew, I sometimes feel like asking 'magtatampo ka ba kung ndi kita uuwian, kawalan ba kung wala ako sa okasyon?' hihi. Honestly I'm not really used to the idea of going home too frequent for just mere 'occasions'. Probably I'm not really a party person.

5th Year as Slave
May 15 (or is it 16, cant remember the exact date) marks my 5 year anniv as a corporate slave, an IT slave to be exact. 5 years ago, it was my first day at work, which is actually a teambuilding/offsite event in Cebu. I was like a lost soul (bagong salta), uto-uto, and partly amazed, 'wow this company is so galante'. Maribago Bluewaters Resort, that night the newhires were supposed to perform, and I was asked to cross-dress as a waiter. :p I got a nice SourceOne traveller's bag that I still get to use sometimes. Hmm those were the days. And I hope the 5 years didnt get to add any age marks on my face, sheesh I dont want stress anymore. 5 seems to be a heavy number. People usually ask you how do you see yourself 5 years from now. In college I did answer 'housewife!', and people think I'm crazy hehe. Who says people with good grades cant have a simple life?! In job interviews, I change my answer to 'manager'. Haha looking back, the question itself is silly, you'll never get to plan your life too ahead, too concrete. But somehow you should manage to have a goal that inspires you, that's it. The only constant thing in life is change.

So how I celebrated this 5 years? Alone lang. I tried a new dish, my first time to do salads. :) Be my guest, let's eat.

Drifter's Note

Suddenly I lost the energy. I need a push.

Probably because of the dynamic lives of the people around me, ayan na naman napapaisip na naman ako what am I doing with my life.

I dont have a concrete answer. All I know is I want a loong long leave, leave without pay, like 1 month in Pinas. 70% for relaxation, 30% for re-assessing (again?! hehe). :)

Weird, parang gusto kong umuwi for good.. But I dont have a good reason? Basta ayoko na bumalik ng hp, over their dead bodies, not mine. (huh? as if that makes sense :p) I still have a few goals, some big and some small. I can't do them all alone. Wehehe let's find someone to build those dreams. Or probably they are better left as dreams I dont know. :(

Give me a reason quick!

I finally submitted the assessment requirement for the short course I've been eyeing in NUS since December. Geez seems like God is with me this time. The course has been moved to a month later, which is a perfect timing as it has skipped the busiest days of my project. Fingers crossed, sana maayos.

I found an interesting baking class, but it's on a weekday morning. Crazy me of course booked it without second thoughts. I'll think of an alibi when the day comes.

And oh I just overcome one of my fears - development/programming. Yes you hear it right, I'm in IT but I fret whenever I'm asked to do programming tasks cause I can't. Or I choose to believe I can't. Anyway, last Apr 28 I started my first official dev task, no choice kulang sa tao ang project. They gave me the simpler ones. Hmm so far I survived, probably it's not as scary as I imagined it to be. Wish me luck.

To match the title I have given, here's the complete lyrics where I lifted the word :) And I'm drawn to the picture.

Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me

Asking Questions

Ever wondered why we always have so many questions?

Questions to make you look BRILLIANT
Bibo kids in the corporate world would never miss an opportunity to ask questions during coffee talks or business meetings. 'What is the company's strategy to address this problem X, where are we heading in the next couple of months, are we adapting this blah.. to surpass this crisis..?' Am really curious what makes this people so passionate about such trashy stuff :p Typical classroom setup, may grade ba ito for recitation kaya tanong ng tanong? :p

Questions to make you look POLITE
Seems like we are obliged to ask people 'kumain ka na' or 'kain tayo' whenever we ourselves are eating. Sa totoo lng, pag hindi mo gusto yun taong inaalokan mo, parang takot ka pa na sumagot cya ng 'oo', patay the food is not enough for yourself pano ka pa magshare. wehehe.

Questions to make you look INTERESTED
Sometimes para hndi mapahiya ang kausap mo (eg dates), you have to think of so many topics and so many questions para lng hindi ka mablanko. Awkward :p. Just to show that small piece of care and concern, cge isip-isip, tanong-tanong pa.

Hmm normally I would ask questions only when I need an answer, like asking for instructions. Or when I'm in my kulit mode, yes I have lots of questions :p Somehow I also find it hard to pop essential questions that are really circling in my head.

Would you still ask a question:
- If you know you won't get a clear answer at all?
- If you know you won't get the answer that you wanted?
- If you think it would only lead to more confusion and more questions?
- If you think it's something that's gonna affect how people think of you?
- If you know you'll be pissed if you get the beating-around-the-bush type of answers?

Hmm if your answer is yes, then I applaud you! :) Would you rather die without knowing any hint of answers? Asking's not gonna kill you right?!

Still. I'm a chicken. I hope I won't have to be in situations where I have to ask. Borrowing a favorite term from the anaps, 'tell me' haha.

Crazy Love

Just thought of sharing some of the love stories of my friends, the kind of stories that are truly one of a kind.

Absurd Reason for Quitting SG
That was how people perceived her for quitting a job in SG to be with a 1-month bf in Ph then. But seems like it was all worth of it, as the guy did propose to her and they're getting married this year. Galing!

Online kind of love
And I never knew this works until it happened to a friend. It started out as an online thingie, some US sites. And my pinay friend chatted with the foreigner guy, met up after a few months in one of the nearby Asian countries, and now he is asking her to move into his country. Fabulous! Lakasan ng loob :p

Cool Rings
The boldest and coolest things that I've ever heard done in a wedding were all here. Bora setup, hip hop dance number for first dance, classy wedding gown with colored beads, and the rings that would take you off your seat. Kakaloka :)

We're all entitled to our own CRAZINESS!

Postcards

Simple things do catch my attention, like this postcard which I bought in a bookstore here.

I just find the shot so likeable and pleasant, cuddly creatures. Add to it a cheesy message :p.
